Dr. Nazeer Iqbal Ahmed, a pioneer interventional radiologist, expired at the age of 61 years. He was at the height of his career as the Head of the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. He was currently the President of the Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. A life member of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association, he was also the president of Tamilnadu/Pondicherry branch of IRIA.
Born on Jan 1 1940, he had his early school and college education at Tirchy and Madurai. He graduated from Madras Medical College in 1966. He trained in Diagnostic Radiology at the prestigious Barnard Institute of Radiology Chennai and obtained the M.D. degree in 1976. He was a fellow of Indian Association of Biomedical Sciences.
He exhibited exemplary dexterity at Vascular Radiology even as a trainee Radiologist. He earned a reputation as an able Vascular Radiologist and subsequently as one of foremost interventional Radiologists of the country. He in turn has trained many young Radiologists.
A gentleman to the core, he was above all controversies; a very popular colleague, admired by one and all. His ultimately demise is a great loss to the specialty and to the medical profession at large.
