Cystic lesions of the orbit : A CT spectrum |
p. 139 |
S Vashisht, S Ghai, P Hatimota, S Ghai, SM Betharia Cystic lesions of the orbit are frequently encountered in the radiological assessment of orbital pathologies. Knowledge of the various cysts and cyst-like lesions with recognition of specific imaging abnormalities enables the radiologist to make the correct diagnosis. This pictorial essay illustrates the spectrum of CT appearances, which may be encountered, with both developmental and acquired cystic lesions of the orbit. |

"Aortic dissection-contrast enhanced 3D MR angiography - a case report" |
p. 147 |
A Sharma, UK Makwane, N Sharma A 32-year-old male presented with a sudden onset of pain in chest, which was tearing in nature. Chest x-ray showed an evidence of cardiomegaly and dilation of descending Aorta. On echocardiography, there was evidence of dissection of Aorta In its root extending into ascending part and arch of aorta: ECG did not show any evidence of Ischaemia. Contrast MR angiography revealed dissection starting from the aortic root till the origin of renal arteries. Patient was put on conservative treatment. |

p. 165 |
A Sharma, UK Makwana, D Jain, N Sharma Bone metastases from HCC are reported rare and especially in humerus. We report the MRI features of humeral metastasis from HCC in a 50 year old lady having pathological fracture humerus involving upper 1/3rd Part, with Involvement of muscles and soft tissue. |

Ultrasonography in teen age pregnancy |
p. 169 |
S Tripathy, C Das Aim : To evaluate complications of teenage pregnancy by Ultrasonography, Repeated ultrasonography is necessary in high risk teenagers because of the complications they face during pregnancy and labour such as IUFD, Anemia, Preeclampsia, congenital anomalies and abnormal presentations. They also face more psychological and physical stress in relation to older women. Material and Methods : One hundred and twenty Patients attending the antenatal clinic of age group of 13-20 years were taken for ultrasonography. 50 percent of patients attending the antenatal clinic are of age group of 13-20 years. Results : Abnormal presentations were seen in 10 (8.33 percent) patients and anemia was seen in 10 (8.33 percent) patients and IUFD in 6(5 percent) patients. As there are underdevelopments of pelvis and CPD In teenagers the number of caeserean sections were high. Around 43.91 percent of patients delivered by caeserean section, remaining 17.3 percent underwent assisted (Low forceps) delivery and the remaining normal deliveries (38.79 percent) Conclusions : Since the bulk of deliveries in India especially in rural areas take place at home, the risk to mother's life is high. This is compounded by early pregnancy, malnutrition and inadequate antenatal care. More than 60 percent deliveries in rural India are attended by untrained persons. This affects both infant and Maternal mortality rates. Better antenatal care, health education and awareness can reduce these complications. |

Flow augmentation technique as an imaging protocol for the evaluation of intramuscular hemangiomas |
p. 195 |
AT Kharat, KR Choudhari, VM Kulkarni, SS Shetty Objectives : To evaluate the utility of distal augmentation in the diagnosis of intramuscular hemangiomas. Materials and Methods : A total of four patients were studied with a clinical suspicion of hemangioma. These patients were evaluated on B mode and color Doppler ultrasound and the findings were correlated with that of histopathology and surgery. Results : The sensitivity of distal flow augmentation in the diagnosis of superficial flow was noted. The procedure proved to be a useful adjunct to clinical examination and other Doppler findings in the diagnosis of these lesions. Conclusion : The procedure is non invasive, safe, practicable and thus a useful aid in diagnosis. |

Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia : An evaluation of six cases |
p. 199 |
BN Lakhar, R Raphael Six cases of spondyloepiphyseai dysplasia tarda that we came across over a period of one year during our routine reporting of plain radiographs are presented. Inheritance, characteristic skeletal abnormalities and possible differential diagnosis are discussed. The characteristic skeletal changes are more commonly seen in the spine and pelvis, even though other epiphyses can also be involved. |

Teratodermoid in parasellar region - a rare entity imaging finding |
p. 209 |
A Sharma, S Singh, Anandmoyee , UK Makwane, N Sharma A 16- year- old male patient with history of seizures and headache, was found to have a well circumscribed heterogenous mass lesion with evidence of calcification, fat and hair, Mass showed peripheral enhancement on CECT. MR also revealed it to be a heterogeneous mass, enhancing on Gadolinium peripherally as well as centrally. Diffusion, ADC and perfusion images showed it to be a predominantly non-vascular mass lesion. The mass was completely excised and on histopathology proved it to be Teratodermoid. The patient improved on follow up. |

Role of diffusion weighted MR images in early diagnosis of cerebral infarction |
p. 213 |
K Rima, G Rohit, P Anjali, C Veena Objectives : The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Diffusion weighted (DW) MR Imaging in the early diagnosis and staging of evolution of cerebral infarction. Material and Methods : Forty patients of suspected cerebral infarction werestudied over an eight month period by echoplanar diffusion weighted (DW) MR images obtained on a 1.5 Tesla. MR Scanner the criteria for inclusion in the study included a clinical diagnosis of stroke, focal neurological deficits and clinical signs and symptoms persisting longer than 24 hours after onset. DW images were visually analyzed and compared with conventional spin-echo and FLAIR images for changes in signal intensity. Results Diffusion weighted images showed changes in signal intensity in all (11/11) lesions less than 1 day old, 15/16 lesions which were 1 to 7 days old, 4/7 lesions 8-14 days old and 1/12 lesions more than 14 days old. Conclusion : Abnormal signal intensity was present on all DW MR studies obtained in patients within 24 hours of symptom onset and in more than 94 percent of patients within the first two weeks after ictus. The percentage of abnormal diffusion studies decreased with time and changes in signal intensity were rare if MR scanning was done more than two weeks after the onset of clinical symptoms. |
